Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 528 N. Covell Ave. at approximately 9:38am on Saturday. An area neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the roof area of the house and alerted Fire Rescue. Police units in the area responded and attempts to make contact with occupants went unanswered. Fire units arrived and searched the residence and found it unoccupied and under renovation. Fire and smoke damage was contained to the attic area but a majority of the ceiling material was removed to extinguish the fire. The fire was under control in approximately 15 minutes after arrival and the cause is under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
Fire Rescue responded with 5 fire apparatus,3 support units, and 22 personnel. SFPD, Paramedics Plus, the Red Cross, XCEL Energy, and MidAmerican Energy responded to assist with the fire. Fire Rescue reminds residents to check their smoke detectors and give heating equipment space to operate.
