Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Monday’s snow may have come in under what was initially estimated, but it could still be enough to make 2015 slightly snowier than 2014.
National Weather Service forecaster Kerry Hanko said coming into Monday the city’s 2015 snowfall total was at 29.5 inches, just 2.4 inches short of 2014’s mark of 31.9. “So far here at the airport we have measured 2.1 [inches of snow], so we are really close,” Hanko told KELO Radio’s Mike Leischner at about 9PM on Monday. Hanko estimated that the area would see an additional inch of accumulation Monday night into Tuesday, if that holds true the 2015 snowfall total would be pushed up to just over 32 inches.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the region until 9AM on Tuesday.
Early estimates had the area receiving up to 6 inches of snow from this system, however as it tracked further to the northeast, those estimates dropped significantly.
