SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - There is a 300 student gap in the Lutheran Social Services mentoring program and a majority of those at-risk youths are boys.
Mentor and school board member Doug Morrison says the goal is to recruit 45 mentors in January.
Morrison says the effort is to be dependable, reliable source to students. He says you can do homework, play or talk about behavior. He says mentors send young people the message that their community does care about them.
Volunteers must complete a background check and training and commit to meeting a student for one hour a week.
