Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire at 1901 S Lincoln Ave. First arriving personnel reported light smoke in the home and the reporting party advised that the homeowner had already evacuated. Crews made entry and performed a primary search of the residence and confirmed that no one was inside the home. During their primary search, they discovered a smoldering fire on a mattress in a bedroom. The fire was quickly extinguished and the smoke was ventilated out to aid in investigation.
It was reported by Metro Communications that the homeowner was suffering from smoke inhalation and was inside a neighbor’s home. Another SFFR crew was assigned to assess her conditions and treated her for smoke inhalation. Patient care was turned over to Paramedics Plus ambulance for transport to the hospital.
Fire Investigator, Battalion Chief Mike Top, arrived on scene and conducted his investigation of the fire origin. The cause is still under investigation. After removing the burned mattress from the bedroom, the home was secured and all Sioux Falls Fire Rescue personnel returned to service. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by Sioux Falls PD and Paramedics Plus ambulance.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents of the importance of working smoke detectors. Detectors should be installed in every sleeping area, outside the sleeping areas and tested monthly.
