SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Election worker pay stays the same as last year in Minnehaha County, with the exception of $15 per worker for precinct tear down after polls close.
Auditor Bob Litz says he scrambles to find precinct workers.
He says many of the most reliable workers are getting too old to stay at polls. When he tries recruiting younger workers they balk at the pay. Litz says he has to rely on patriotism.
Precinct assistants get $10.50 an hour, deputies get a flat $127 and superintendents get $140 a day.
