Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Schools Superintendent Doctor Brian Maher says he expects "something meaningful" from Governor Daugaard on raising teacher pay in the Governor's annual State-of-the-State Address.
Maher says that Daugaard is serious about the issue or he wouldn't have established a Blue Ribbon Task Force on Education. Maher was a task force member.
The head of South Dakota's largest school district says that teachers should have the same value in the state as doctors and lawyers.
The Blue Ribbon Task Force suggested that it would take about $75 million to make teacher salaries in South Dakota competitive with surrounding states.
Daugaard's State-of-the-State is set for Tuesday at 1CT and opens the 2016 State Legislature.
