SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -The nation is focused today on the Martin Luther King Junior federal holiday as a national day of service.
Director of Mentoring at Lutheran Social Services, Michelle Madsen, says the need for mentors is statewide. Madsen says about 300 kids are waiting to get paired up with a mentor.
Madsen says mentoring is a two-way street, and it can often times be good for the mentor as well. She says it makes people better community members, a better parent if they have children, and just more aware of the whole picture of what's going on in their community.
