SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - It’s been at least 12 years since the Sioux Falls School District has done any strategic planning and Superintendent Brian Maher wants parent’s input beginning tonight.

School Board President Kent Alberty says the District has outlined some priority areas.  Those include improvements to student outcomes, school climate, district staff and community engagement.

Still, Alberty says, those attending the community meetings are not limited to those areas.  He says any concerns or issues can be presented and discussed.

Alberty says it was Maher who wanted to start a new round of strategic planning and made that clear when he was a candidate for the job.

Tonight’s community meeting is at seven at Susan B. Anthony Elementary School.  Another meetingis tomorrow at four at Lincoln High and tomorrow night at seven at Memorial  Middle School.

Alberty says after the steering committee compiles data from the meetings, and considers the areas identified as priorities, the School Board will get a detailed report later this spring.  He says that will include challenges, strengths and any recommended changes that can set goals for improved student outcomes.
