SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Friday, January 29, is the first day nominating petitions can be circulated and filed for the four, Sioux Falls city council seats on the April ballot.
City Clerk Lorie Hogstad says there are three open district seats and Kermit Staggers can seek re-election as an At-Large Councilor. Hogstad says Staggers has not yet committed to seeking a second term. District seats include the Northeast, Northwest and Southwest.
She says At-Large candidates must collect 200 signatures anywhere in Sioux Falls while district candidates must collect 50 signature from residents in their district. All signatures must come from registered voters.
Election booklets and petition forms may be picked up at the City Clerk's Office at Carnagie Town Hall at 235 West 10th Street. The can also be downloaded at siouxfalls.org/election.
Petitions must be in Hogstad’s office by five p.m. on Tuesday, February 26th.
The City/School Board election is Tuesday, April 12 and polling places will be at the traditional precincts. Hogstad says the primary and general elections will also be at precincts this year instead of the vote centers.
