Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The mouth-watering winner of the 3rd annual Downtown Burger Battle in Sioux Falls is the Market Charcuterie Burger by The Market restaurant at 196 E. 6th Street.
The winning burger featured pork belly beef burger and market smoked bacon, homemade bread & butter pickles, pepato cheese, chef’s whole seed mustard and micro-greens drizzled with a wine redux sauce on a roasted garlic bun, served with parmigiano chips.
"It was a honor to win this competition and cannot thank our loyal customers enough, along with all the new folks who came down to try the burger. Chef Greg will run a “Victory Lap Special” for another week for anyone that didn’t get a chance to try it or those who want just one more taste," said Laurel Lather, managing partner of The Market.
In total, a record 2,310 burgers were sold/votes cast between the eight participating restaurants. This number shatters previous years with 1,127 sold in 2015 with 6 participating restaurants and 1,616 sold in 2014 with 7 participating restaurants.
Participating restaurants also included: Elements on 8th, JL Beers, Bros Brasserie, Parker's Bistro, Phillips Avenue Diner, ODE To Food & Drinks and Five Guys.
Social media played a big part in this year's battle as customers uploaded photos and comments using #BurgerBattle16. Gift cards were given away weekly to social media users and a rate slip was pulled as the a grand prize winner, who received a gift card to all eight restaurants.
The 4th annual Downtown Burger Battle is set for January 2017. The Market will keep the traveling burger trophy on display for the remainder of 2016.
