SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls building permit numbers continue soaring, ahead of last year's record pace.
Permits head Ron Bell says year to date permits total almost $70 million and there are still big projects ahead.
Bell cites Cars for Sale at Lake Lorraine, Avis House at Sanford, the Howard Wood Field House will be rebuilt, several downtown projects, Riverview Square at 8th and Phillips Avenue, Greystone Apartments and Technology Heights Apartments. He says the projects continue pouring into his office.
Two big projects in February included TouchMark at All Saints for $14 million and Avera Medical West at $15.5 million dollars. Bell says total valuations in February alone amount to $35.7 million.
Bell says the Greystone project may be the largest apartment complex in town and says he doesn't know yet what the construction valuation of that will finally be.
Bell says the growth in the medical communities, both at Sanford and Avera, has been amazing. And he says there are still projects that are planned for downtown Sioux Falls.
He says there are 19 news single family dwellings which is pretty typical for January and February. The city has issued permits for 162 new apartment units so far this year.
Bell predicts the city may hit $80 to $90 million dollars at the end of February.
