Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Some residents at Touchmark All Saints are confident the surrounding neighborhood will be happy once the major expansion at the retirement community in central Sioux Falls is completed.
The All Saints Neighborhood Association mourns the loss of all those old trees and green space and fought for months against Touchmark's plans.
"I think when it's all over with people are going to be mighty proud of it," says retired farmer Gerritt Van Den Top. He says some of those trees had reached the end of their life, anyway.
Resident Caroline Deimena says many old trees have been retained on the property. She says the completed expansion "will be a beautiful addition to the city of Sioux Falls."
The four-story expansion will include a health and fitness club, underground parking, additional homes for adults 55-plus, and a pool. Mr. Van Den Top says he is most looking forward to the pool.
The historic All Saints property dates back to the 1880s, and is an architectural icon in South Dakota's largest city.
