SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Adding four tennis courts to Hitchcock Park in Mitchell is expected to proceed despite the low bid coming in $55,000 over budget.
Mitchell Tennis Association President Melanie Mullenmeister told the city council that the school district might make up the difference.
Mullenmeister says she talked with the Mitchell school superintendent who said that pending school board approval he'll recommend the district add $75,000 spread over three years.
The Mitchell City Council budgeted $125,000 for the project and the Mitchell Tennis Association will contribute $125,000 through grants, donations and fundraising. That brought the total to $250,000 but the low bid came in at $305,000 dollars.
The money will also fund the relocation of a baseball diamond at Hitchcock Park to Northridge Park.
Mullenmeister says the goal is to come up with the remaining money at the end of the year.
