SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission anticipates about $600,000 dollars in extra revenue annually from the re-distribution of the alcohol tax.

The bill redistributes the alcohol tax between the state, counties and cities.  South Dakota counties had never received funds from the tax.

Commissioner Jeff Barth says yet it falls on counties to prosecute, defend and incarcerate suspects under the influence.

Commissioner Dick Kelly says if Governor Daugaard signs a bill allowing user fee changes it too will mean more revenue.

He says some of the fees are archaic.  If the governor signs House Bill 1005, Kelly says the county can anticipate another $600,000 in new revenue.  Kelly says the legislature was very supportive of county needs this session.

Some county user fees were established before statehood.
