SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -  A winter storm warning is in effect until one tomorrow morning.

The warning stretches from Yankton, Sioux Falls, Pipestone and points east including Worthington, Minnesota, and Spencer, Iowa.

Forecaster Todd Heitkamp says snowfall in Sioux Falls is now predicted at three to five inches. Heitkamp says the warm ground will make it a little more difficult for snow to accumulate.  In addition, he says, the snow will be heavy and wet and will melt on contact

Heitkamp says the heaviest snow will still come this afternoon.  He says the snow during the commute will be scattered by northeast winds gusting to forty.  That will reduce visibility especially in rural locations.

He says snowfall will be heaviest in northwest Iowa.  He says that includes the Highway 9 corridor and Highway 18.  Heitkamp advises travelers to and from northwest Iowa to consider postponing those plans this afternoon.

The snow ends after midnight in Sioux Falls, sunshine tomorrow, less wind but temperatures in the mid-thirties.
