Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls 2016 Teacher of the Year is Janet Swier, biology teacher and science department chair at Washington High School.
Swier has been teaching at Washington for 18 years.
Criteria for selecting the winner include committment to learning, effectiveness in meeting the needs of students, cooperation with parents, and community involvement.
Mrs. Swier received nothing but praise from students, adminstrators and fellow teachers.
She was presented a $4,000 check from Vern Eide Motorcars.
There were 31 nominees for the Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year Award. This is the 28th year of the program.
