SIOUX FALLS, S.D (KELO AM) - One in three Americans have high blood pressure and during April the City of Sioux Falls, hospitals, healthcare providers and businesses will offer screenings.
Mary Michaels with the city's Health Department says for many, screening results can serve as a wake-up call.
Michaels says high blood pressure can often go ignored because there are few ill effects, that's why it's often called the silent killer. She says high blood pressure can lead to stroke and heart attack.
This is the sixth annual "Big Squeeze," a community-wide high blood pressure awareness campaign.
"The Big Squeeze" is part of the "Live Well Sioux Falls" health campaign.
