Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) A new 22 million dollar facility for city government got a green light Tuesday night. Council members spent nearly an hour on financing details, considering other options, hearing citizen input, and debate. The Sioux Falls City Council voted to a tie 4-4, with Mayor Mike Huether casting the tie-breaker.
A compromise that includes waiting until October to finance the plan was explained by City Finance Director Tracy Turbak. He said that will give the city more time to continue to engage Minnehaha County about possible collaboration on the project. He told the council the delay would also be a chance to continue to provide flexible options.
Council members voting against the project were Greg Jamison, Kermit Staggers, Dean Karsky and Christine Erickson. Voting to approve the new building were Michelle Erpenbach, Rick Kiley, Rex Rolfing, and Kenny Anderson, Jr..
