SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) – The Highway Patrol identifies the 90-year-old man who died in a two-vehicle crash on I-229 yesterday as Edward Thraen of Slayton, Minnesota.

Two other people suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The Patrol identifies them as  57-year-old  Bernard Moore and 59-year-old Karen Moore.  Both were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital. The couple is from Crooks, S.D.

A 2001 Chevrolet PCS pickup driven by Thraen was traveling north in the southbound lane near the Cliff Avenue exit. The pickup collided head-on with a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

Thraen died at the scene.

All three people were wearing seatbelts. Because of the crash, that area of I-229 was closed to traffic for a time.

Officials with the South Dakota Highway Patrol are investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Sioux Falls Police Department, Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue and Paramedics Plus.
