Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) City bus rides will be free as part of Sioux Falls official Earth Day celebration on April 22. The hook is that taking public transit saves gas and cuts pollution.
Several storm water inlets downtown will be painted white to create a buzz about improving water quality. Local businesses will decorate these water quality zones with appropriate artwork in the coming weeks.
“A common misconception is that storm drains lead to the sanitary sewer system and that water that flows down these drains gets treated," says City of Sioux Falls Sustainability Coordinator Jessica Lantgen, "That’s not the case—water that flows down the storm drains actually leads directly to the Big Sioux River with little or no treatment."
The non-profit recycling group 'Ecomaniacs' will host a downtown litter cleanup from 1 to 3 p.m. that starts at the Raven Industries parking lot. If you email shaun@ecomaniacssd.org by April 15, you'll get a free Ecomaniacs T-shirt.
