Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) – For 33 years, Dr. Jerry Walton has been a fierce advocate for healthy living and educated patients through his weekly Medical Line radio program, the longest running medical show on Sioux Falls radio. At 10:00am on December 18th, 2013 Dr. Walton will air his final Medical Line radio show on News Talk KELO 1320 AM / 107.9FM.
Medical Line has been provided as a service to Southeast South Dakota as an opportunity to stay informed on the most recent medical news with an opportunity for listeners to call in with questions regarding their own health.
Prior to his show, Medical Line, Dr. Jerry Walton had completed undergraduate studies at Dakota Wesleyan University in 1956, with star performances in sports, academics, theatre and music. In 1964, Dr. Walton graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Upon graduation, Dr. Walton returned to South Dakota to practice medicine as a board certified family physician until his retirement from daily practice.
Dr. Walton served as Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Sioux Valley Hospital, as well as serving on the founding Board of Directors of the (Sioux Falls) Family Practice Residency and on the USD School of Medicine Foundation Board.
In 1998, Dr. Walton was named Alumnus of the Year at Dakota Wesleyan University and received an honorary Doctorate of Science. Dr. Walton was awarded as Family Doctor of the Year in 1990 by the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians.
His dedication to our region has grown beyond that of his popular radio show. In 2007, Dr. Walton founded the South Dakota Growing Healthy Initiative to focus on the growing problem of obesity in our community.
