Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Most city bus rides were free in Sioux Falls on Friday to celebrate Earth Day.  The angle is that taking public transportation cuts down on air pollution.

There was a downtown litter cleanup run by the recylcing group, Ecomaniacs. They were all wearing green t-shirts.

Area schools were thinking green with Earth day activities, from picking up trash to planting seed trays to fundraising to send a energy efficient stove to a family in Mexico.

The City's household hazardous waste facility got in the act, by offering a thermometer exchange. People that brought in old mercury thermometers received a new digital thermometer for free.

A number of storm water inlets in downtown Sioux Falls have been painted white. It's to draw attention to the city's storm drainage system and its impact on the environment.
