Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Traffic will have to adjust when the $7.4 million 12th Street bridge reconstruction project in Sioux Falls shifts into high gear Friday, May 6.
Work crews will begin to remove the south half of the bridge. The current four lanes of traffic will be reduced to three. Two lanes will be maintained in the peak direction of traffic throughout the project. In July the north half of the bridge will be reconstructed in a similar fashion.
The bridge reconstruction is the flagship street construction project for 2016 in Sioux Falls.
“West 12th Street is one of the most travelled roads in all of the city, with 21,400 cars a day using this stretch of street. This project will replace a major and important piece of infrastructure, and it will be reconstructed under traffic to keep our city moving,” says Chad Huwe, City Engineer.
