Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The National Weather Service says Sioux Falls residents may get a rude awakening early Wednesday when a thin line of thunderstorms rolls through town.
Forecaster Matt Dukes says it's part of a line of storms that stretches from central South Dakota all the way to Kansas. The line caused problems in the Rapid City area earlier on Tuesday, and it's expected to roll through Sioux Falls at around 3AM Wednesday. "We've had some reports in Rapid City of 60MPH winds. We're not expecting the winds to remain that strong as the storms track eastward, but we could see some 40-50 MPH gusts," said Dukes.
The biggest threat outside of the wind will be hale, which Dukes says could range in size from dime to quarter size.
This is just another chapter in what could be an active weather week in the area. NWS forecasters are calling for at least a 30% chance of rain every night through Saturday. Dukes added that skies could clear up by Memorial Day on Monday.
