Brandon, SD (KELO AM) - No one was injured but a home in Brandon has been destroyed following a fire on Friday.

The home was located in the 1800 block of Ashton Trail in a newer development located just off Rice Street between Brandon and Sioux Falls. At its height, smoke from the fire could be seen from eastern Sioux Falls and Interstate 90. KSFY TV's Bridget Bennett was on the scene of the fire and said crews from multiple departments, including Brandon, Split Rock, Sioux Falls, and Garretson were all working to beat down the flames.

"[The house] appears to be just completely destroyed. The roof is caved in, there is extreme damage on this home" said Bennett. KSFY TV says the fire started with a grill that was too close to the structure.

At least a dozen units from across the area were at the scene working to put out the fire, including an aerial unit from Sioux Falls that was working to put out hotspots. The crews not only battled the fire, but temps of 90 degrees and triple digit heat index readings as well. Residents in the area and Red Cross volunteers provided cold water and towels to help the crews cool off. Additionally, Sioux Falls Fire Chief Jim Sideras said a Rehab station was set up to help crews battle the dangerous heat.

The home was reportedly built six months ago by Brady Belgersdyk and his wife. The couple has a young child. No one in the family was hurt, the Red Cross has stepped in to assist the family.
