Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Whether it's a "hate crime" or a deliberate act of Islamic terror, the local LGBTQ community is dealing with a tragedy felt by all Americans. Ashley Joubert-Gaddis of the Center for Equality in Sioux Falls says it's an especially painful event for their group.
Local events are planned for this week to celebrate "PRIDE Month". The main PRIDE Festival is planned for this coming Saturday at Terrace Park. With crowds over eight thousand expected to be taking part, Joubert-Gaddis says she's been in contact with law enforcement before the attack regarding security for the activities. Now, she says she'll meet with Police to take a look at the need for any expanded security measures.
Those attending a Sunday afternoon PRIDE ceremony planned in advance of the shooting took time to remember the Florida victims. Joubert-Gaddis says additional vigil or remembrances may be planned, and information provided on the Center for Equality's FACEBOOK page.
