PIPESTONE, MN (KELO-AM) A tornado touched down near Pipestone Minnesota Tuesday afternoon, according to National Weather Service Forecaster Kyle Weisser.
"That one has been verified near Pipestone to have touched the ground," says Weisser, "there was damage with it. We talked to the emergency manager in Pipestone County and luckily that has since dissipated. It was on the ground probably five or ten minutes."
Weisser says the damage was only minor and no one was hurt.
The brief tornado was part of a very unsettled weather system that moved swiftly across the Sioux Empire. It brought heavy rain and wind gusts to parts of northwestern Iowa.
"May and June, that's usually the time the environment is ripe for severe weather," says Weisser.
A tornado was also spotted near Webster in northeastern South Dakota.
If a tornado warning is issued for your area, experts advise that you seek shelter.
