SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Police say two tenants in a southwest Sioux Falls apartment building narrowly missed getting hit by a stray bullet accidentally fired by a neighbor.
Officer Sam Clemens says 24-year-old Anthony Steven Pier was giving the gun to a friend when he tried clearing a round from the chamber. Clemens says as he ejected one round from the gun his finger was on the trigger and the slide went forward which fired the next round.
Clemens says the bullet went through his neighbor's apartment and into the next one where it finally stopped. Both apartments were occupied.
Pier was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Both are misdemeanors.
Pier’s friend was taking the gun because Pier wasdrunk and the friend feared he may be suicidal.
No one was injured. The incident happened early Saturday morning.
