Concrete Pour of the Ice Floor at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Achieves “Super Flat” StandardsSIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The concrete pour of the ice floor at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center took place on Saturday, January 11. The NHL-size ice rink is 200 feet by 85 feet, and the concrete floor flatness and levelness creates smooth ice, which is essential for hockey play. Because these measurements are so precise, the ground was graded with lasers, the concrete was poured using lasers, and the concrete was checked with lasers. Tolerances are very tight, less than the thickness of a sheet of paper.
American Engineering and Testing performed floor flatness and floor levelness tests on the newly poured concrete immediately after it was finished. A total of eight sequenced measurements were taken, and the average result was compared to the specified values for the floor. The values that were achieved at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center exceeded project specifications.
