Arizona man sentenced in local methamphetamine conspiracy

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rio Rico, Arizona, man convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance was sentenced on February 24, 2014 by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier.Eduardo Martinez-Torres, age 30, was sentenced to 135 months in prison to be followed by 5 years of supervised release.Martinez-Torres was indicted on the conspiracy charge by a federal grand jury on June 4, 2013, and he pled guilty on November 13, 2013.During his involvement in the conspiracy, Martinez-Torres shipped methamphetamine to a co-conspirator in Sioux Falls, who in turn distributed it.  He also collected payment for methamphetamine he had previously shipped.This case was investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.  Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Haak prosecuted the case.Martinez-Torres was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
