Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The owner of Discount Merchandise Center in downtown Sioux Falls has officially appealed the recent planning decision to allow a new homeless shelter in the Whittier neighborhood. Marian Reiffer is also circulating a petition to fight the homeless shelter's location.
The Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls wants to turn the warehouse building into a expanded facility to serve the needy.
Reiffer acknowledges the need for a homeless shelter, but she says it should not be close to bars or to children. She suggests putting it on the edge of town somewhere and providing work for people to do.
Next stop for this contentious issue is the Sioux Falls City Council.
