Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire at 1808 East Fifth Street last evening.
First-arriving units found smoke and flames coming from the first floor of Apartment T. The fire was under control in approximately ten minutes. The fire was contained to the first floor of the apartment. The apartment had smoke damage to the first and second floor.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire. A maintenance person found the fire and reported it. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist residents.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with two support vehicles, five fire trucks, and twenty seven firefighters. The apartment building did not have a fire sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to discuss a home escape plan with family members.
