SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Tony Award Winning musical “Memphis” comes to the Washington Pavilion for two performances Saturday, April 19.
Marketing Director Michele Wellmen says the story centers on white D-Jay Huey Calhoun. Calhoun falls in love with an African-American singer during the 50's when rock n' roll was emerging but civil rights were still a generation away.
The scene is set in the smoky halls and undergournd clubs of the segregated 50's.
Wellman says “Memphis” is based on real life events and filled with roof-raising rock n’ roll.
