Shred sensitive financial records

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sensitive financial documents can be an opening to identity thieves.

Jessie Schmidt with the Better Business Bureau says you can take those papers to the annual shred event tomorrow at three Sioux Falls locations.

Schmidt says you won't have to get out of your car because Boy Scouts have volunteered to do the heavy lifting.  She says you don't have to remove binders or staples because the heavy duty shredders make short work of any material.

Scmidt says a CrimeStoppers representative will ask for a $5 donation per box. CrimeStoppers offers cash rewards for information leading to an arrest or criminal charges. All tipsters remain anonymous. Call CrimeStoppers at 367-7007 or text "CRIMES" and start your message with "TIP635".

The shred event is Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MinnWest Bank parking lot at 57th and Louise, Shopko at 10th and Sycamore and the Pavilion Parking ramp off of Phillips Avenue.
