Three receive Mayor’s Awards for the arts

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The Sioux Falls Mayor’s Awards for the Arts are presented each year to individuals and entities that have significantly impacted art, culture, and heritage in Sioux Falls. Congratulations to this year’s recipients.

Jerry Fogg is this year’s recipient of the Individual Excellence Award in the Arts. Jerry is a mixed-media, pencil and ink, and acrylic and watercolor tribal artist. He is also the lead vocalist for the contemporary rock band “Native Soul” and a self-employed business owner in Sioux Falls. Jerry’s pieces have brought him many accolades including People’s Choice Award: Artists of the Plains and Best of Show: Artists of the Plains.

Cherapa Place is this year’s recipient of the Organizational Achievement Award in the Arts. Located on the site of a former feed mill, Cherapa Place has been a catalyst for riverfront and east bank development. Their local art collection ranges from bronze and mixed metal sculptures on the exterior to paint, photography, and mixed media on the interior. Each piece was hand selected to beautifully integrate into the space.

Linda Boyd is this year’s recipient of the Charlotte Carver Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. Linda and her husband, John, own Prairie Star Gallery in downtown Sioux Falls. Over the past 17 years, the gallery has promoted 100 juried artists and more than 1,000 reservation artists, sold more than $4.5 million of authentic native art, and served more than 22,000 customers from around the world.

The Mayor’s Awards for the Arts event, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Arts Council, was held on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at TSP, Inc. This year’s nominees included:
