SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) April 29, 2014: Its transition to business success took a winding path, but AVProAlliance.com Inc. has arrived.
Jeff Murray and his team of AV (Audio & Video) professionals have outgrown their space in the South Dakota Technology Business Center and are moving to an office and warehouse building in northeastern Sioux Falls.
The company has reached the point that it’s doing well, Murray says. “We’re moving to a place where we have more space,” he says. “We have good plans for the next five years of growth.”
Beginning in May, the company’s new home will be a leased complex on North Casco Drive.
AVProAlliance.com supplies audio and visual connectivity products and test & measurement tools to businesses that serve commercial and residential AV integration and automation markets. AVProAlliance essentially sells the infrastructure that connects and mixes electronic signals to play sounds and display images – plus the tools and test gear to troubleshoot systems when something goes wrong or system calibration is required.
The company makes some of its own products and resells equipment from other companies. It also provides training to companies around the world. Murray estimates that AVProAlliance.com has customers in 40 countries.
Recent customers in the United States included a casino in the state of Washington that bought about $50,000 of AV infrastructure parts for implementation of multi-location video and sound and a centralized video wall for social media interaction.
Murray grew up in San Diego. He has an undergraduate degree in electronics management from Southern Illinois University. He also has a master’s degree in information technology from Colorado Technical University.
He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army and worked for 14 years for Sencore, an electronics company in Sioux Falls. In 2010, he opened a SpectraCal Sales office in the SDTBC. Jeff eventually left SpectraCal Sales and became an independent consultant in the AV industry.
AV Professional Alliance opened in the SDTBC in late 2012. The company evolved out of the group of former Sencore employees who opened the SpectraCal office. However, most of AVProAlliance.com’s 10 current employees did not work for Sencore or SpectraCal.
Murray is the majority owner of AVProAlliance.com. His business partner and the minority owner of the company is Gerry LeMay, who is based in the St. Louis area. The two men started the business. LeMay does a lot of product-development work, focusing on the audio side of the business, says Murray, who focuses on the video side.
Murray’s son, Matt, plays a key role in all phases of the business by managing sales, which gives AVProAlliance.com the flavor of a family business.
AVProAlliance.com is the 21st graduate of the SDTBC, a business incubator that opened in 2004. The SDTBC currently provides more than 20 business clients with development help, technology services and flexible lease terms for office space.
Pam Boehm, entrepreneurship and incubation manager at the SDTBC, says she’s pleased anytime a tenant company reaches a level of success that requires it to move into a bigger space.“They’re ready to graduate and move on to continue experiencing success. We’re thrilled,” Boehm says.
Jeff Murray’s ability to see and act on opportunities has been a big asset for the company, Boehm says. Having office and storage space in one location will be a plus for AVProAlliance.com, too, she says.
Audio Video Integrations is one of AVProAlliance’s local clients. It uses some AVProAlliance products when it installs conferencing or home theater systems in homes or businesses. “They’ve got great customer service and great products. To have a local company available that we can call upon to help with some of our clients is a great resource to have in Sioux Falls,” says Jerry Cook, partner and CEO at Audio Video Integrations. “They keep a lot of products on hand that we might need on short notice,” Cook says. “They’re a great company to work with.”
