SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A routine traffic stop produced a suspect in an aggravated assault last night.
Lieutenant Loren McManus says 22-year-old Mario Nelson, a transient, allegedly strangled a female shortly before he was pulled over at 12th and Carolyn. McManus says Nelson failed to dim his vehicle's bright lights and that drew the attention of a police officer on a saturation patrol.
McManus says officers found a syringe in Nelson's car that tested postive for methamphetamine. He's also charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
McManus says the 31-year female victim, described as an acquaintance to Nelson, wasn't seriously injured and didn't require medical attention.
