SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will add a new fire station in the northwest area of Sioux Falls next spring.

Construction is underway now, and a groundbreaking ceremony for the building will take place this Monday, May 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. The new fire station will be located at the intersection of North Valley View Road and Maple Street. Access to the site for the groundbreaking ceremony will be off of Maple Street, and overflow parking is available in the George McGovern Middle School parking lot.

“Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is excited to begin offering enhanced services in the northwest part of town,” says Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras. “When the city grows, our department grows with it. Fifteen new firefighters will be hired to meet the needs of the area.”

The new Fire Station No. 11 will be located on approximately 1.5 acres and span about 7,900 square feet. The building will include a three-bay apparatus garage with support spaces, four sleeping rooms with adjoining restrooms, a physical training area, laundry, a living room, offices, and Battalion Chief headquarters. The prime contractor on this $1,681,900 project is Peska Construction, Inc., of Sioux Falls, and the building was designed by TSP, Inc.

The new fire station will be occupied by staff and operational in the spring of 2015.
