Church fire at 514 South Duluth Avenue

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELOAM) On Saturday, May 10, 2014, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a church fire at 514 South Duluth Avenue.

First-arriving units found smoke coming from the roof of a church. Firefighters entered the church and found fire in the attic area. The fire was under control in approximately 20 minutes. The fire was contained to the attic area on the east side of the church. The attic area sustained heavy fire damage.

No one was in the church at the time of the fire. A neighbor saw smoke coming from the roof and reported it. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist firefighters.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 3 support vehicles, 8 fire trucks, and 34 firefighters. The church did not have a fire sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to check their smoke detectors monthly.
