SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) On Sunday, May 11, 2014, at approximately 12 midnight, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a house fire at 709 North Dubuque Avenue.
First-arriving units found a fire on the exterior of the home which spread from ground level to the second floor window. The fire was under control in approximately five minutes. The fire was contained to a small portion of the exterior, causing no extension into the home. The home suffered a small amount of charring damage.
The residents were awoken by their smoke alarms and a small amount of smoke in the house. They immediately evacuated the home. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with one support vehicle, three fire trucks, and 13 firefighters. The home did not have a building sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms and to discuss a home escape plan with family members.
