Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The west side of Sioux Falls will see two street construction projects ramp up next week when segments of Sertoma Avenue and Maple Street close.

On Monday, May 19, street construction will begin on West Maple Street from LaMesa Drive to Marion Road. This project is intended to accommodate the expected increase in traffic on Maple Street due to the new George McGovern Middle School and Fire Station #11, which are currently under construction. Improvements include water main, sanitary sewer, asphalt pavement, and a new left turn lane. Maple Street will be closed and traffic will be detoured on Marion Road, 60th Street North, and Ellis Road. Maple Street is expected to reopen by August 1. The prime contractor on this $1,700,000 project is Journey Group of Sioux Falls.

On Wednesday, May 21, Sertoma Avenue will be closed on the north side of 41st Street as part of the 41st Street reconstruction project. Improvements include water main, sanitary sewer, concrete pavement, street lights, and traffic signals. Traffic for Sertoma Avenue will be detoured on 41st Street, Marion Road, and 26th Street. Sertoma Avenue north of 41st Street is expected to reopen in four weeks. West 41st Street is expected to reopen in late November.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
