Vermillion, SD (KELO AM) - There will be candidates' debates in October for all three statewide races in South Dakota, aired across the state by South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

The Gubenatorial debate will be October 9, the U-S House debate will be October 16, and on October 23, the U-S Senate candidates will debate. Each debate will start at 8pm and will be 60 minutes long. The questions will be selected from those submitted by members of the public.  You can submit a question at programming@sdpb.org

The debates will be co-sponsored by South Dakota AARP and the South Dakota Newspaper Association. Letters have been mailed to all the candidates.

Democrat Rick Weiland was the first to accept an invitation to the U-S Senate debate, saying in a release “I want to thank these three groups for being the first to officially invite the US Senate candidates to formally debate the issues that will shape this year’s election. The voters of South Dakota need and deserve to see all four Senate candidates discuss important issues in a public forum. South Dakotans face a critical decision this November and it shouldn’t have to be a decision based on who has the prettiest television commercials or newspaper advertising.”
