SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County commission today passed a provisional budget of $68.6 million for next fiscal year.
County Administrator Ken McFarland says the budget is supported by a 1.9% increase in property taxes due to new construction.
Commission Chairman Gerald Beninga credited county department heads for a bare-bones budget. He says with rapid growth in public safety and very limited growth in revenue sources, with property taxes as the main source, it was a crash course, unfortunately, that needed to be pursued.
A public hearing for the Minnehaha County budget for fiscal year 2014 will be held Tuesday, September 3rd with final adoption set for September 24th.
