SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A Sioux Falls man accused of kicking his eight-year-old daughter, which escalated into a standoff with police Monday night, was arrested last night where he worked.

Officer Sam Clemens says police cornered 31-year-old Colin Michael Tibbetts in a restaurant break room.  Clemen says Tibbetts threatened police with a knife and tried stacking boxes in front of the door. The officers could open the door enough to use pepper spray on Tibbets who dropped the knife and surrendered.

Clemens says police ended the standoff with Tibbetts on Monday when they determined he was alone, opting for a later arrest.

Tibbetts is charged with abuse or cruelty to a minor, aggravated assault on law enforcement and resisting arrest.
