Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls hopes to have the $3.6 million Bishop Dudley Hospitality House open for the homeless in the Whittier neighborhood by the first of the year.

Bishop Paul Swain on Monday went to the converted building at 101 N. Indiana Avenue to give the community an update on the project, complete with renderings of what the homeless shelter will look like inside.

Bishop Swain announced that $1 million has already been raised and that the public can help with donations at www.bdhh.org

Church spokesman Jerry Klein says that security concerns area residents have about the new shelter will be addressed in a series of neighborhood meetings.

The Hospitality House will have seven family units, 20 emergency overnight beds for women and 80 emergency overnight beds for men. These areas will be segregated and secured.
