SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -  Senator John Thune says Burlington Northern Sante Fe’s railcar backlogs in South Dakota have doubled over the last two weeks.

Thune says he hopes the rail service problems can be solved before they get out of hand.  He says the wheat harvest is ready to go and the corn and soybean harvest won't be far behind.  He plans talking to the head of BNSF next week to determine if the fall rail service will shape up

Thune says South Dakota’s late BNSF cars total over 400 while North Dakota’s late cars total close to 4000.

He says rail service impacts shippers, farmers and ethanol plants.
