SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Since a drug drop-off box at the Sioux Falls Law Enforcement Center opened two years ago, more that 3,500 pounds of medication has been disposed.

Officer Sam Clemens says prescription medication abuse is the fastest growing drug abuse problem facing the nation.  He says the problem is in Sioux Falls too.  Officers, more often than not, are finding pills on people that don't belong to them.

There are no forms to fill out when dropping off medication, no questions are asked and it's free.

Clemens says drop-boxes for medications, needles and chemo drugs are available Monday through Friday from 6 to ten in the Center’s lobby.  No liquids are accepted.
