SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Better Business Bureau says a Nebraksa woman was bilked out of $500 by a phone scammer claiming the victim was delinquent in past taxes.

Jessie Schmidt with the Bureau says the woman was threatened with arrest if she did not pay a portion of her back taxes that day.

The victim withdtrew $500 and had the money transferred to a Green Dot MoneyPak and gave the card's numbers to the caller who stayed on the line with the victim through the process.

Schmidt says tactics include a caller I-D that shows up as the I-R-S on victim's phones, a tactic known as spoofing.  She says the I-R-S contacts taxpayers only through the mail.

If you receive a threatening phone call claiming to be with the U.S. Government, report it to the BBB by calling 1-800649-6814.
