SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Despite Saturday’s thunderstorm, the annual “Hog Wild” blood drive saw 119 lifesaving donations.
Rita Nelson with the Community Blood Bank says each donation helps three patients. She says that translates into 357 patients and their familes benefiting from life-saving transfusions.
Nelson says the need for blood never slows because of accidents, surgeries, trauma victims and cancer patients. This time of year donations tend to drop because people are busy with vacations, reunions and any summer activities that takes donors out of their usual schedules
The Community Blood Bank is a cooperative effort between Avera McKennan Hospital and Sanford Medical
