SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Warrants were issued last October for the arrest of Richard Benda for aggravated theft by deception and by threat.
Attorney General Marty Jackley today provided a South Dakota legislative committee with the criminal complaint and arrest warrant.
A grand jury was to meet October 28 to consider allegations of financial misconduct by Benda while at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
Jackley says the investigation discovered $550,000 redirected by Benda to prepay EB5 loan monitoring fees for the South Dakota Regional Center.
Benda left the State to work for SDRC. He committed suicide October 22 and no further state criminal action was taken.
